We tested a bunch of different recipes & liked this one the best. Makes enough for two good lumps of super-soft dough.

Homemade play dough

  • 1 c white flour

  • ½ c salt

  • 2 Tbsp cream of tartar

  • 1 Tbsp oil

  • 1 c water

  • food colouring (optional)

  • cinnamon or cloves (optional)

Try adding cinnamon for its natural anti-bacterial properties and a nice smell! Make your own natural dye with beet powder or juice for pink, turmeric for yellow, and matcha powder or spirulina for green!

Adding water last, mix ingredients in a pot and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, for about 5 minutes. Dough will become hard to stir and start to clump up. Remove your lump of dough from the pot and knead for several minutes on the counter. Play dough will stay squishy and moist for several weeks if stored in an air-tight container.
