What’s more tempting on a hot summer day than a deliciously refreshing, icy slushie? I would say that this healthier take is definitely even more tempting! A conventional slushie is all ice and sugar syrup, and all that sugar is actually dehydrating and devoid of any nutrients. With two minutes, a blender, and just a few ingredients, you can make your own that are delicious and so much better for you! They will replenish your electrolytes and give you a natural vitamin C boost. Now go juice some lemons!

These are quite tart. You can start with this recipe and add a little more sweetener if you need it. We’ve used maple syrup, as it’s a less processed sweetener, and local to boot, but coconut nectar is a great low-glycemic alternative, or a little raw honey, which is antibacterial!

The only question is: which of the two flavours to try first?!

Coco-Lime Slushie

  • 1 cup coconut water ice cubes

  • ½ cup lime juice (about 3 limes)

  • Pinch of sea salt

  • 2 Tbsp maple syrup

Raspberry Lemon Slushie

  • 1 c frozen raspberries

  • 1 c coconut water ice cubes

  • ½ c lemon juice

  • ½ c coconut water

  • Pinch of sea salt

  • 2 Tbsp maple syrup

Blend all ingredients in a high powered blender just enough to maintain the icy texture.

Enjoy!

Cool tips for optimal slushie goodness!

  • Keep some coconut water in ice cubes trays through the summer so you can make one of these whenever the mood strikes!

  • Freeze any fruit that’s about to go off, and save it for a slushie.

  • Get creative with whatever produce you have on hand!

  • Get sneaky with some frozen spinach in a minty-flavoured slush!
